Most beer sold in India falls into three styles: lager, strong beer and wheat beer. Knowing which is which makes it much easier to pick the right bottle, whether it is for a hot afternoon or a long dinner.
Lager: light, crisp and easy
Lager is the everyday beer: pale, fizzy and clean, usually around 4.5 to 5% alcohol. It is the one to reach for on a hot day and with spicy food, because it refreshes rather than fills you up.
Familiar names include Kingfisher Premium, Tuborg Green, Budweiser and Carlsberg Smooth. For something lighter still, Corona is a Mexican lager traditionally served with a wedge of lime.
Strong beer: more body, more alcohol
Strong beer is a lager brewed to a higher strength, typically 6.5 to 8% alcohol. It is fuller and maltier, a little sweeter, and noticeably more potent, so one strong beer is closer to one and a half regular ones.
Popular examples are Kingfisher Strong, Tuborg Strong and Carlsberg Elephant. Drink them a little more slowly, and keep water on the table.
Wheat beer: soft, hazy and fruity
Wheat beer is brewed with a large share of wheat, which makes it cloudy, softer and less bitter than lager, often with notes of orange peel and coriander. It is around 4.5 to 5% alcohol.
Good ones to try are Bira 91 White, Hoegaarden and Kronenbourg 1664 Blanc. Wheat beers suit lighter food and long, unhurried afternoons.
How to serve beer in Jaipur’s heat
- Keep it cold: a few hours in the fridge, or an hour in a bucket of ice and water, which chills faster than ice alone.
- Use a glass: pouring releases the aroma and the fizz; tilt the glass and straighten it at the end for a small head.
- Match the food: crisp lagers cut through rich, spicy dishes; wheat beers sit better with lighter plates.
Bottle or can?
In India most beer comes as a 650 ml bottle, a 500 ml can or a 330 ml bottle. Cans chill faster and travel better; the big bottle is better value for sharing.
Whichever you choose, Bottle Express delivers it chilled across Jaipur within 30 minutes. Ask on WhatsApp if you want help choosing.
